There is a poster that hangs in the School Conference Room. It has a line on it saying “Every journey has an end. But it’s the journey that matters in the end.”
Cada camino tiene un fin. Pero es el camino lo que importa, al final.
Life is not like climbing a mountain. It is not climbing up, up, up. There are times you do down. There are times things are easier and times that things go harder.
Life is not a 100 metre race. As many people have said, it is a marathon, not a sprint.
Life is not like preparing for an examination. It is not learn, learn, learn, because one day in the future I am going to be tested. Not, the learning and the testing, are mixed together.
In life, sometimes we say goodbye and fare well. Today we say fare well to the 59 graduates of the generation of 2009. But before we do that, I would like to invite us all to give our good wishes to another important person who will be leaving Redland at the end of this year, our Head of Senior School Ruth Percival.

Tonight we are celebrating the achievements of these young people. I know that you care individually for every one of these new graduates, that you know them very well, and have worked tirelessly for their benefit. I want to thank you for everything you have done for them and for Redland during your time here at the school. You have new adventures ahead of you in Spain and we wish you well in your new role with the SEK schools there.
Ladies and gentlemen, I invite you to give a generous round of applause for Miss Ruth Percival.
